Multiple times a week if not daily, we may be likely to come across posts, articles and commercials about maintaining our physical and mental health. They remind us of the importance of eating, taking or doing something to preserve and care for our bodies and brains.

The three oral conditions that most affect overall health and quality of life are cavities, severe gum disease and severe tooth loss.
By age 8, over half of children (52%) have had a cavity in their primary (baby) teeth.
One in 4 adults aged 20 to 64 currently has cavities.
Medical-dental integration between oral health and chronic disease prevention programs benefits patients and saves money.
By contributing to our physical health, good oral health also supports greater mental health. With dentistry’s current cosmetic capabilities, thorough oral care further can help form an even more radiant smile and personal presentation. As we know, that can boost our mental health as well as spread a positive glow to other people.

Dental Hygiene & Regular Professional Cleaning
We might not always be thinking of it, but our mouth is swarmed with bacteria. Many of them tend to be harmless, but if left to propagate they can cause bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease.

For this reason, it’s important to have our teeth cleaned and inspected by a trained dental professional every six months. These regular cleanings and exams also can help ensure that any signs of oral cancer are spotted at their earliest possible stage, which can be lifesaving.
Tooth Repair & Strengthening
Beyond dental hygiene, exams and cleanings, oral health can be properly maintained by having existing tooth and gum problems treated and repaired by specialized dentists.
Tooth repair and strengthening can stop a problem from advancing in the mouth while also contributing to a greater personal profile. The following are solutions for decayed teeth for patients in Oswego, Yorkville, Boulder Hill, Plainfield, Montgomery, Aurora and North Aurora.
Fillings. Modern dentistry now allows for the use of tooth-colored (or composite resin) fillings to restore teeth that had once been treated with silver amalgam fillings. Composite fillings look and feel more natural than silver fillings while also being just as durable because of advances in polymer resin technology.
Crowns. Porcelain crowns are ceramic restorations that cover the tooth’s full chewing area. They are usually placed on teeth that are too badly decayed to be repaired with a basic filling. Today’s porcelain materials allow a dental technician to create truly artful replacement teeth that are indistinguishable from natural teeth.
Some crowns might also be full-cast gold blended with small amounts of other elements for greater substance and durability. Gold crowns are most commonly used for molar (back) teeth, particularly for patients who grind their teeth or have very strong bites.
Endodontics (root canal). The inner tooth includes a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains blood vessels, nerves and connective tissues that support the tooth root as it develops. A fully developed tooth can survive without the pulp because it can be fed by surrounding tissues.
A root canal involves the removal of inflamed or infected pulp. The side of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected, and then it is filled and sealed with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha. Afterwards, the tooth is restored with a protective crown or filling. This allows the tooth to continue functioning like any other tooth.
Full Mouth Reconstruction
As we’ve been touching on, we depend on our teeth for a lot, including the vital functions of chewing and biting, as well as protecting our physical health in Oswego, Yorkville, Boulder Hill, Plainfield, Montgomery, Aurora and North Aurora .

Dentures can be held in place in different ways. When properly fitted and made, they can achieve superb chewing as well as an engaging smile.
Implants. Small titanium fixtures are placed in the bone of the upper or lower jaw, where they bond with the bone and act as an anchor for replacement teeth. Dental implants can replace a single lost tooth or many missing teeth.
Enamel reshaping. In some cases, treatments such as porcelain veneers, crowns or tooth-colored fillings might not be necessary for restoring teeth. Some teeth can be returned to their original, natural beauty through tooth reshaping, a selective sanding and polishing process that is painless, quick and relatively inexpensive.
Clear Correct trays. If you’re a good candidate for clear aligners, your dentist will take photos and x-rays, use a scanner or impressions to capture the shape of your teeth and submit your prescription to ClearCorrect. A series of aligners will then be customized to apply pressure to the teeth you want to move. Your dentist will monitor your progress and provide you with new sets of aligners as needed.

When my dentist of many years retired, I knew I would have to find another one to replace him. I had a “fear” of dentists, and I didn’t want to just randomly call another one. I searched online and read many, many reviews of other dentists, but I kept coming back to the Oswego Dental Group. The reviews were all five stars, and I thought to myself if even HALF the reviews are accurate, I’ll start there. But I wasn’t in a hurry…….who actually loves going to the dentist? I didn’t! Then I cracked a tooth a few weeks ago and knew I had to get it taken care of. I called Oswego Dental Group to set up an appointment on 2/25 and they fit me in on 2/26. From the moment I walked into the building until I left an hour and a half later, I realized the reviews I’d read were 100% spot on! I’m not familiar enough with everyone there to know all their names yet, but the dental assistant I had was absolutely wonderful in every possible way. Her sense of professionalism mixed with light hearted humor put me at ease immediately. Dr. MacDonald was the same ~ very professional, but with a good mix of humor, too. He checked out the tooth that I’d cracked and explained everything clearly to me. I walked out of there with a temporary crown on my tooth while a new one is being made. For someone who was once fearful of dentists, I have zero hesitation or concern of returning to Oswego Dental Group in a few weeks for the final crown to be put on my tooth. I was warmly greeted by staff members the moment I walked in the door, and felt the same sense of caring until the moment left. I would 100% recommend Oswego Dental Group to anyone ~ ESPECIALLY to anyone who has any hesitation about needing dental work!

We had a wonderful experience with Dr Milazzo and Ann. I called to ask for a consultation and got an appointment the next morning. Upon arriving we were greeted and shown to the back. My husband (70 yrs old) had a baby tooth that needed to be pulled but he is on blood thinners and has an LVAD (heart pump) and we always encounter people not wanting to help him because of his medical condition. But Dr Milazzo and his assistant Ann were like a breath of fresh air! They took great care of my husband and he got in there and pulled the tooth without a problem. It was amazing to be in a dentist office with such caring kind professional’s. We have found our dentist.

Our family needed to find a new dentist since ours retired. We were going to him for over 35 years so picking a new office was a little nerve racking. From the very beginning the office made us feel very welcome. My children were very nervous at first but the moment the hygienists called their names the nerves faded since they were both very warm, friendly and caring. They were even comfortable enough to go by themselves.
I also had Amy for my appointment the next week and she was excellent. Also, Dr. Milazzo was great as well. I highly recommend Oswego Dental Group!

Dr. Milazzo was amazing with my 7 year old daughter. She got her first filling done and I loved that he spoke to HER (as the patient) and not just me. Dr Milazzo, Sally and the whole staff are the best. THE BEST. I was a mess and had been in pain for a long time before finally finding Dr. Milazzo. I spent a lot of time and a lot of money going to another dentist that just kept making everything worse…I was literally living on protien drinks because it hurt too much to chew. It took a little time (I needed a lot of work done) but Dr Milazzo fixed everything and I can finally eat again. I’m forever grateful for Oswego Dental Group and would without hesitation recommend them.
